St Georges lift Portland KO trophy
BUFF BAY, Portland — St Georges Sports Club clobbered Ujama 6-0 to walk away with the Portland FA Portland Credit Union Knockout title for the sixth straight year at Lynch Park on Thursday.
St Georges were led by a hat-trick from Girvon Brown (71st, 90th, 93rd minutes) and a brace from Damion Harwood (42nd, 80th). Shawn Hunter scored the other goal in the 10th minute.
The victors later lost Hunter who fell awkwardly on his elbow and had to be taken to the hospital and was replaced by Maurice Jackson.
The second half saw the Georgians dominating through Daniel Shaw and Harwood, both missing some early chances.
Ujama were reduced to ten players when referee Gwayne Scott dismissed Kanute Harrison for violent conduct in the 62nd minute.
Victorious coach Braxton Hyre was pleased with his team’s performance. “It was a tough game (as) they (Ujama) came out running,” he said.
Ujama coach Vernon Brissett was not pleased with his team’s efforts. “They did not play to instructions and it cost us the game,” he lamented.
Marketing manager of the Portland Credit Union, Anthony Morrison, was happy with the way the competition was run. “We are committed to the competition and the development of youth. We have been doing it for ten years and we will continue next year,” he said,
