South Central Super League returns with cross-zone fixtures
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Action in the South Central Super League returns this weekend with the playing of cross-zone fixtures after a two-week hiatus to facilitate the completion of the parish knockout competitions and also in observance of the Yuletide season.
The cross-zone feature, which will run from rounds six through to 11, will see the 12 teams that are grouped in zones A and B play across the zones before returning to regular zone matches in rounds 12 through to 16.
Today, Naggo Head host Monymusk FC and Woodhall entertain Newland. Another four games are on tomorrow. Downs will meet Meadows, Original Hazard play Hillstars, Tafari Lions tackle Bodles, while Leeds will play away to Tru-Juice. Action on both days will start at 3:00 pm.
The game between Zone B’s Naggo Head and Monymusk at Naggo Head is expected to be a keenly contested one, as both teams virtually have identical records. They are both on seven points after winning two games each, drawing once while losing twice.
Clarendon’s Monymusk who are fourth in their zone are, however, one place above their St Catherine counterpart on the overall chart in fifth place courtesy of a better goal difference.
At the Turners Oval, third-place Newlands (9) are expected to extend their unbeaten streak to six games when they go up against zone A strugglers Woodhall who are yet to win a game since gaining promotion.
Tomorrow, overall leaders Meadows (13), who are one of three unbeaten teams in the competition (the other being Tru-Juice), should also collect three points when they travel to Manchester to face Zone A’s Downs (seven) who are in seventh place at the Downs Community Centre.
Zone A leaders Tru-Juice (13), who are in second place overall, are also expected to heap more misery on last-place Leeds who are yet to collect a point from five games, when they meet at to Bybrook.
The Tafari Lions/Bodles encounter at the Lacovia Community Centre could go either way, as only two points separate both teams. Bodles of Zone B are on eight points in fourth place, while Lions are in eighth place on six points.
At Wembley, Strugglers Original Hazard (A) and Hillstars — in ninth and tenth place, respectively — could turn their match-up into a dogfight, as both teams wrestle for survival.
