A Career in sports
Welcome to week four of career walk. TEENage takes this opportunity to congratulate the track stars of Wolmers’ Boys School for winning the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Champion-ships for 2010. The fifty-year spell has been broken.
As such, this week TEENage has decided to reach out to those persons who enjoy sports and would love to have a career in the sporting arena.
The following test can help in determining your personality classification. Please note that this is just a guide and may not accurately determine an individual’s personality class. Knowing your personality type will help you to your career choice.
Today we will be looking at the Job Title:
Athletic Trainer (Coach)
Most TEENs must have some knowledge of who a coach is and what he or she does. However, seeing that after age 16 many teens may lose their interest in sports, TEENage wishes to talk about the career of being an athletic trainer.
An athletic trainer is one who designs and
plans exercise programmes to physically and mentally prepare athletes for competition.
For one to become an athletic trainer it is required that they have passes in the following subjects: biology, information technology, English language and mathematics. Along with the aforementioned subjects, one must also have a Diploma (Dip.) in Physical Education. The demand for this career is currently on the rise.
To be successful one must possess many positive qualities. It is not as easy as it may seem. This is so because it requires you to be able to work under pressure and make important decisions. It also requires good analytical skills and effective management and leadership skills. You must be willing to work tirelessly with your athletes for long, odd hours to encourage and enhance their skills and state of mind. You must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal and human relations skills, in order to work with and promote your team. Note, this job is physically challenging.
Persons that are interested in this career may find job opportunities in sports clubs, schools and sporting associations and organisations
In the personality test if you chose 2, 9 and 12 as a “yes” then this could be a career you should consider working towards. This falls on the category of an Inspirer. Good luck and all the best.
I will see you next week for another career walk.
