MONTEGO BAY, St James — A Hanover man who was found guilty on two charges of rape and illegal possession of a firearm was recently sentenced to a total of 52 years in prison following his trial in the Western Regional Gun Court.

Oniel Murray, a 31-year-old security guard who posed as a taxi driver to lure his victims, was found guilty for raping a 12 year-old girl and a 22- year-old woman on separate occasions last year.

The Observer West understands that he is facing at least three more changes of a similar nature, the first of which is to be tried later this month.

Reports reaching Observer West are that DNA evidence was used to help convict him in at least one of the cases.

In the incident involving the teenager, it is understood that she was going to school at about 7:00am in March last year when he picked her up and took her to a section of Bogue Heights instead. He pulled a gun and raped her before robbing her of $1000.

It is understood that he then took her to into the the heart of Montego Bay, where he let her out of the vehicle and theratened her not to tell anyone.

A report was however made to the police and soon after he was held by members of the Island Special Constable Force and the Transport Authority while attempting to abduct a student of a Montego Bay High school. He was later pointed out on an identification parade.

He was sentenced to 23 years on the rape charge and five years for the illegal possession of firearm.

In the second incident which took place a month after the first, the evidence was that he took up the woman who was travelling from Catherine Hall in St James, but instead of going towards down town Montego Bay he drove to Fairfield where he threatened her with the gun before raping and robbing her of her valuables before abandoning her.

On this charge he was sentenced to 19 years for the rape and five years for the illegal weapon.
