Flexxing with Protojé
A revolutionary in his own right, Oje Ollivirerre, more popularly known as Protoje, has been making a name for himself throughout the music industry.
Protoje burst onto the scene with his hit single Arguments, which reached number one within a few weeks of its release.
Greatly inspired by the late Bob Marley, Protoje brings a new, refreshed sound to the reggae music scene. TEENage recently flexxed with the artiste hailed as the next big thing.
Born in the 1980s, Protoje grew in up in St Elizabeth where he developed a profound love for the arts. With his growing interest in it, he began to get involved in anything that had to do with music and even owned a sound system at one point. With massive support from his family and friends he later took it one step further and launched his music career with a fresh sound and undeniable talent. When asked to describe his music he stated that it is a fusion of all genres as he aims to appeal to every musial aspect and every audience.
Despite having a hit single, Protoje remains very humble, stating that he has not achieved anything as yet, because he aims to inspire millions with his music. Since the start of the year it has been non-stop work for Protoje who has been in the studio working on tracks for his upcoming album, The Seven Year Itch, which will feature a mixture of collaborations and various producers like the industry heavyhitter, and cousin of Protoje, Don Corleone.
In January he released his latest single, Dread, which has been receiving a lot of airplay locally as well as abroad. When asked which artiste he would like to work with, he quickly answered Midnite, a roots-reggae band hailing from the US Virgin Islands. He also stated he would like to work with Lupe Fiasco and Junior Gong, before explaining that he is creating a band to further his musical endeavours. Protoje ended the flexx with his final advice for TEENs: work for everything you want, because nothing comes easy.
