Fatty Bum Bum favoured for Pick-3 Super Challenge
Elizabeth DaCosta’s bay filly Fatty Bum Bum, trained by Wayne DaCosta and who won race number one in the $11.8 million Supreme Ventures Limited lucrative three-race Two-Year-Old Series in October, is favoured to repeat.
With the proverbial enticing carrot dangling before all, the winning combination will once again go in search of victory number two as the speedy filly leads a competitive field of 11 in the sixth running of the $3.6 million Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy over 1,400 metres at Caymanas Park today at 4:35 pm. First post at 12:15 pm.
A Graded Stakes race for native-bred two-year-olds, the Pick-3 Super Challenge anchors the day’s well supported and competitive-looking 10-race card, which also includes the knotty $715,000 Sunnyside Stakes. A maiden special weight contest for native-bred two-year-old fillies over 1,100 metres, it has attracted a near full field of 14 starters.
The other races on the programme will all bear the names of products offered to the public by Supreme Ventures.
Fatty Bum Bum will be competing for the first time since winning the opening salvo — Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy race over 1,200 metres on October 16. The daughter of Storm Craft out of Bird Stow (Law Of The Sea) and bred by Allan Flowers has already won three of her four starts and finished second by a neck in the other.
After breaking her maiden on June 19 over 600 metres straight, she followed this by loosing narrowly, riding the bends for the first time. However, since then she has been a model of consistency and has won over 1,100 metres and then followed up by taking the first-leg of this present Series by 5 3/4 lengths over 1,200 metres on October 16.
The only Graded Stakes winner in the field, Fatty Bum Bum will be ridden by champion and leading jockey Omar Walker, who would have ridden his 100th winner on the programme by the time this race is run.
Among her most potent threats are Traditional Prince, Justin On Fire Electrifying, Uncle Ken and Isnt She Something.
Dr Glanville Ashton’s home-bred, a far striding bay colt by Traditional out of Milford Sound (You Ok), Traditional, was installed the even money favourite for race number one in the series, but stumbled at the start and never recovered to finish a floundering 11 1/2 lengths in seventh. Since then, he has recovered and working well according to trainer Robert Pearson.
Elias Haloute & Stephan Narinesingh’s Electrifying has been looking sharp on the exercise track and with trainer Anthony Nunes calling up the in-form female apprentice Georgina Sergeon to navigate a sterling effort is envisaged.
Gemini Stables’Justin On Fire looked impressive when ridden by Dane Nelson in his two undefeated runs and showed particularly good competitive qualities while winning the valuable Two-Year-Old Sprint on November 13. With this in view, and trainer Morris Powell calling up the competent Andre Martin to partner the gelding son of War Marshall out of Wild Fire, it should not surprise to see him fighting out this finish.
