Buju satisfied with jurors

Hoping they will to listen to all the facts

A composed looking Buju Banton expressed satisfaction with the make up of the panel of jurors which will hear evidence in his second drug trial in a US Sam Gibbons Federal court in Tampa Florida.

Speaking with the media after the adjournment of the first day of the trial, Banton went straight to the point.

“I would like to thank the lord for giving me a good jury and All I ask is that the jurors listen to all the facts,” he said.

He also said he felt good about his prospects of securing a not guilty verdict.

Earlier, Alexander Johnson, the government informant who Reggae star Buju Banton claims entrapped him, told the court that he never knew the Grammy award-winning artiste before they met on a plane in 2009.

Drug Enforcement Agent Dan McCaffrey, testified that he had no evidence that there was any connection between Banton and two alleged drug dealers known as ‘Ike’ and ‘Tyke’.

The pair, police said, gave a wad of cash to James Mack to purchase cocaine.

Mack, who along with Ian Thomas was jointly charged with Banton, has since pleaded guilty and is yet to be sentenced. Both Mack and Thomas are expected to testify in this trial.

This afternoon’s session was adjourned close to 4 pm after a juror fell ill.

Johnson is expected to continue giving evidence when the trial resumes tomorrow.

Banton is facing charges of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine; attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine; possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offence; and using the wires to facilitate a drug trafficking offence.

If convicted he could be sentenced to life in prison.
