Tessanne, Tami Chynn, Pulse Fashion Fix at Studio 38
Singing siblings Tami Chynn, and Tessanne are scheduled to perform at Studio 38 in Kingston tonight.
The night’s entertainment will also feature the Pulse Fashion Fix, showcasing the last nine contestants standing in the current Pulse Model Search Petite Reality TV show.
Tessanne and Tami join a long list of Jamaican super acts to have appeared at Studio 38 in the 14 months that the venue has been in existence. The list includes Tanya Stephens, Beres Hammond, Toots Hibbert, Ken Booth, the late great Gregory Isaacs (who gave his last performance at Studio 38), John Holt, Freddie McGregor, Tarrus Riley, Beenie Man, George Nooks, Leroy Sibblies, URoy, Ken Booth, Pluto Shervington, Ernie Smith, Yellowman, Pinchers and Admiral Bailey.
At age 14, Tami, who grew up in Kingston, moved to the, UK where she spent three years
studying the performing arts and in 2001, at age 17, moved back to Jamaica where she has worked to build her music career and recorded her first single Rock U.
In 2008 Tami received notice by artist Akon who signed her up to his label Konvict Muzik and began production of her sophomore album Prima Donna. The lead single for the album, Frozen (featuring Akon), was released in 2008. In March she toured the UK with Akon and both performed Frozen on the BBC. In 2008, she starred in a Pepsi commercial alongside Verne Troyer, T Pain and Shaggy.
Tami’s sister Tessanne is best known for her hit singles Hideaway and Messenger. She has already opened for famous acts such as Patti Labelle, Peabo Bryson and Gladys Knight, and toured for 3 years with Jimmy Cliff. Tessanne started performing when she was 6 years old with Cathy Levy’s Little People and Teen Players club.
Upon her return to Jamaica, Tessanne joined the Jamaican rock band, Mile High and performed for crowds at numerous local venues including Jazzfest, Rockfest, an RETV Unplugged. After going on tour for 3 years with Jimmy Cliff as a back-up singer, she decided to launch her solo career. Her debut single, Hideaway, received heavy rotation on Jamaican radio and select stations in New York. Both the single and its music video were very popular. Tessanne released her debut album In Between Words, earlier this year.
