Ico Flamez teaching through music
WATCH out, world! Here comes Ico Flamez, an artiste who is determined to cut a niche for himself in the competitive world that’s called dancehall.
Blessed with a good voice and a talent to pen fiery lyrics, Ico Flamez is working with producers such as Free Willy, Fifth Element; as well as labels Rainbow Castle and VP Records to make his mark in the biz.
Born Fitzroy Cunningham and sometimes called Kiddie Famous, Ico Flamez has been showcasing his talent since the age of 11 when he began writing his own lyrics and performing at small parties and gigs. His first booking at the age of 14 was at the Extreme night club in Portmore, sharing the stage with other guest artistes such as Red Rat, Goofy and Buccaneer.
The crowd response only served to boost his confidence and saw him even more determined to embrace music as a full-time profession.
“Music is a teaching tool for me. I write about social issues…what better way to get my point across than through the medium of music?” the conscious deejay quizzed.
According to him, it doesn’t matter how long it takes to get that big break he is seeking, he will not be ‘selling out’ what he believes.
“Years from now, I want my music to be imparting valuable lessons to listeners,” he said.
Ico Flamez says his inspiration comes from the natural environment in which he resides at the Lava ground, Portmore and from listening to other conscious entertainers such as Beres Hammond, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, D Brown, Buju Banton, Sizzla, IWayne, Firestar, Harmony, Terry Linen, Sade, Marcia Griffiths and Carlene Davis among others.
Since then Ico Flamez has performed at events such as Sting, Stone Love Anniversary, Asylum, Cactus, every venue in Portmore among others.
Ico Flamez is currently enjoying radio rotation with the single By The Window done in combination with Guidance.
