Jamaican women crash out of 100m hurdles
JAMAICA will have no representative in the women’s 100 metres hurdles final after Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Vonette Dixon and Indira Spence failed to qualify from their semi-final heats at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Running in the first semi, Vonette Dixon clocked 13.00 seconds behind race-winner Phylicia George of Canada in 12.73.
Meantime in the second heat, a personal best of 12.93 would see Spence finish only fifth in a race won by a fast finishing Sally Pearson of Australia in a world leading 12.36.
A season’s best 12.87 was not enough for defending world champion Foster-Hylton in the third heat. She finished fourth and was 0.03 seconds outside qualification as a fastest loser.
The final will be run today at 7:00 am Jamaican time.
