Brazilian coach returns to MoBay United
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Brazilian coach Neider dos Santos will take over as the head coach at Premier League club Montego Bay United FC come Monday.
Orville Powell, president of the promoted Premier League club, confirmed their appointment with the Sunday Observer on Friday, explaining the need for stability in the club that has six points and is in 10th place, just one above the drop zone.
Powell said the move was not a knee-jerk one or made out of haste, but was “in the making for some time now.”
Both Powell and the former Bahamas national coach worked together at Village United last season until he left in March after just two months on the job.
At the time, Powell had defended the hiring of dos Santos and said he did not think the Village players or some sections of the clubs were ready for what the former Bahamian national coach brought to the club.
“Neider’s role was misunderstood,” Powell said then, ” he had high standards and for the most parts he did not get the support of the clubs or the players.”
Meanwhile, Dr Dean Weatherly, who was in charge when Montego Bay United beat Village United, 1-0, on Wednesday, will be in charge of the team in their game against Sporting Central Academy today.
