Ja face tough SA in University Netball semis
JAMAICA demolished Zimbabwe, 87-15, yesterday to advance to today’s semi-final of the World University Netball Championships being held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Jamaicans will face unbeaten hosts South Africa in the first semi-final, with Ireland taking on neighbours Great Britain, who are also unbeaten, in the other.
Yesterday, Jamaica led from start to finish. They led the first quarter 24-3 and were ahead, 44-7 at the half. They continued to dominate their opponents and went up 68-8 at the end of the third quarter before cruising to their 87-15 triumph.
According to the FISU website, the South African coach admitted they were not used to the Jamaican side’s style of play.
“Jamaica is a very physical team and we will really work hard to go full out from the beginning against them,” she said.
“We will go back today, analyse all their games and be prepared on court. It will be a test of character as we’re not used to such a physical competition, so it’s going to be a challenge to me as a coach as well.”
