Maroon 5 tops Billboard with One More Night

Catch Di Riddim

AMERICAN pop band Maroon 5 has taken the number-one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with the reggae song, One More Night.

It is the second single from the group’s fourth studio album, Overexposed.

This is the third number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for the Adam Levine-led group. Their previous chart-toppers were Makes Me Wonder and Moves Like Jagger, which featured Christina Aguilera.

Maroon 5 performed in Jamaica at the 2011 Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

Dondeman takes aim at Jamaica

British artiste Dondeman has his sights set on making it in Jamaica.

The singjay, whose blend of dancehall, reggae and soca has brought him recognition in Britain, is originally from Spanish Town.

“I’ve been doing my music for a good while now and things have improved a lot since I moved to England. My work is being noticed in the United Kingdom and Europe, so I want to now make my name known in Jamaica, he said.

Dondeman is currently promoting the songs I Phone (featuring Kira Key), Bumper Fete, Wood Wood and Di Gal Dem, locally.

He released his debut album Tek it to Dem in 2008.

Prayer works for Don Christopher

Florida-based reggae singer Don Christopher has come a long way since he recorded his debut single at age 16, for the famed Channel One studio in Kingston.

He recently scored his first number one song with the uptempo Pray For Mi Mama which was done with budding dancehall artiste Bertus.

“The idea for this song came to me in a dream and I just had to record it. One night I had a very unusual dream and I woke up saying, ‘pray for mi mama, pray for mi’. From that night I knew I had to write a song using those words,” said Don Christopher.

Pray For Mi Mama, which is released on the Gosh Productions label, topped the Hot 102 radio station’s Jamaica Music Countdown Top 25 Reggae Singles chart.

Nando to release debut album

Singer Nando Griffiths will release his debut album on September 27. Titled Yaad and Abroad, the 17-track set is on the One Jam Music label.

Its first single was Ride All Night, while the follow-up, My Everything, is presently climbing local charts.

Another track from the album, Team Jamaica (Light the Torch), is a tribute to Jamaica’s Olympic team.

Commenting on My Everything, Nando said: “Folks, especially the ladies, in touch with their romantic side have been telling me how much they are feeling this song. I am glad my music is able to bring couples on the dance-floor and inspire lovers to show more appreciation for their partners.”

Caribbean updates

Guyanese singer Trevin Hunte is among the entrants in the NBC talent contest, The Voice. The 18-year-old auditioned with an impressive rendition of Beyonce’s Listen.

American rapper Rock Ross recently completed the video for his latest single, Diced Pineapples, in Anguilla. The video was directed by Little X, who is of Trinidadian parentage.

Antigua’s Queen of Carnival Ranee Larone will represent the country at the Miss Caraibes Hibiscus pageant in St Martin in early December. She is also a member of the DUST (Dance Unifying Souls Together) group.
