Elections Candidates, Letters, US Elections
October 29, 2012

America might well favour Romney

Dear Editor,

Now that the US election is at fever-pitch excitement and President Obama has a slight edge in the electoral votes, the Republican hate groups, surrogates and racist groups are pulling out every stop to make President Obama a one-term president, but that’s politics. All is fair in love and war.

This brings me to to the question: Is America a racist country? I have made my own analysis based on the following questions:

(1) Who are the dominant sports personalites who make hundreds of millions of dollars combined each year? Are they non-whites?

(2) What percentage of non-white entertainers – TV, movie personalities are on Forbes’ top 50 list of top earners.

(3) What percentage of non-whites hold prominent positions in education; health services, science and numerous other fields?

(4) Would a racist country elect a non-white president, considering that the majority of the electorate are white? Would that same country have a nonwhite attorney general, two non-white secretaries of state? These are among the top 20 most powerful people in the country. (5) Would China elect a non-Chinese head of state?

(6) Would the following countries elect non-white heads of state – England, Germany, Italy, Russia?

Isn’t it a fact that every country has some indicator of racist fringe? Does that make the country racist? During the last 30 years I have visited the US over 50 times and have never encountered any form of racism although my visits grossed only a total of two years, so that makes me no expert on the country’s racial behaviour. But I have based my opinion on the foregoing observations.

Despite my observations, there is a blatant display of racist fringes in the US. These groups and individuals hate anybody who is not white; these groups and individuals have infiltrated most sectors of the society, are most blatant in politics, and have lost their moral footing; a country should not be judged by its minority but the high standard and opportunity it offers its citizens.

Finally, at least 48 per cent of voters want Obama to lose, not because they are all racists, but may favour the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney. The country is so politically polarised that it could give thought to a racially divided country, but are there facts to substantiate such a thought?
