JPS deploys additional resources to eastern parishes
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says it has redeployed several employee and contractor teams from other areas to work in the badly hit eastern parishes.KINGSTON & ST ANDREWPORTLANDST THOMASST ANNST CATHERINEST MARY
“Most of our restoration effort is now concentrated in Portland, St Mary and St Thomas, where we have close to 25,000 customers still without electricity,” Omar Sweeney, JPS regional director-east said in a release this afternoon.
“We have made significant headway in the last two days, and have restored power to more than half of our customers in these parishes. However, our teams continue to face enormous challenges of difficult terrain and lack of access to some communities and, as a result, our progress is severely hampered. Restoration work in these parishes is therefore likely to continue into next week,” Sweeney added.
In addition to the restoration work in the eastern parishes, JPS says it is continuing its restoration efforts in Kingston & St Andrew, as well as sections of St Catherine and St Ann.
