A match made in VW heaven
CALL it a match made in Volkswagen heaven. Krishna and Renée Singh found love and are influenced by the fast-growing German brand.
“We both always shared a passion for cars,” hubby Krishna told Auto.
The pair met in 2006 at work. However, their romance would not begin until three years later.
“I bought my VW Golf GTi in 2008. I resigned my job in 2009 and immediately asked Renée out the following week,” he said.
What began as a night on the town turned into a full-fledged relationship, with the VW as well, of course.
“He allowed me to drive his Golf that night and I was blown away by it. The performance, the refinement, everything,” Renée exclaimed.
Converted, she sold her Honda Accord and picked a 2008 candy white GTi to complement Krishna’s red one. During this time, their love continued to blossom, and in December 2011 an anxious Krishna popped the question after using his Golf GTi to shuttle his unknowing bride-to-be to a planned romantic dinner in Portland.
“We’d never discussed marriage,” she admitted. “So when he asked me to marry him, I was so surprised that I burst into tears. It was so surreal.”
Six months later in June 2012, they tied the knot at Strawberry Hill, St Andrew.
“Our wedding ran a bit late because the photographer had to incorporate both our cars in the pictures,” said Krishna, with a smile.
Currently, both compete with their VW Golf Gtis at local drag race events in support of Krishna’s business as local dealer for VW reflashing software Revotechnik. The software is used to fine-tune the electronic control unit (ECU) for both the engine and DSG transmission.
“The best thing is having a wife that loves cars too. When most women won’t think about getting their hands and nails dirty, Renée is right there with me helping me when I get a new part or tune a car.”
