WESTMORELAND’S JamWest Speedway will bring their 2013 season to an end with their massive End of Year Drags event on Sunday.

The event will feature overseas competitors and some traditional circuit-racing staples.

“This is our last event for the year and along with the regular drag classes we will have three international racers, two from the United States and one from Cayman Islands,” Elle Johnson, JamWest’s administrative technician, told Auto.

Qualifying begin start at 8:00 am, with eliminations starting at mid-day.

Leading the overseas competitors is Florida-based Damon Chin in his Toyota Celica, a full-tube frame drag car with over 1,500 horsepower.

“We’ve taken full care of the strip to make sure that the car can make a six-second pass,” said Johnson.

Bryn Morgan, with his seven-second drag rail, heads the local contingent consisting of popular regulars like Dean Shaw.

Adding further to the excitement is a head-to-head grudge match between Damian Allen and Craig Lue. Both men have made nine-second runs and are itching to drip into the eights. The regular classes, from 10 seconds up, including the hotly contested 14- and 15-second category, will complete the drag programme.

In between the drag action, the full-race circuit will be used for a series of demonstration races using Formula V cars, one of which will be driven by veteran racer Peter Rae. The Formula Vs are single-seater style race cars powered by a 1600cc Subaru engine.

“We’re using the opportunity to expose the crowd to this type of racing,” explained Johnson.
