JAMAICA’S provider of advanced wired and wireless Internet service, LIME, will on Tuesday February 11, 2014, turn its focus toward safe and responsible use of the technology as part of the global observation of Safer Internet Day (SID).

LIME will again join hundreds of international organizations across the world to spread the word and build awareness especially among young people.

Safer Internet Day 2014, with the Theme ‘Let’s create a better Internet together’, will offer the opportunity to focus on both the creative things that children and young people are doing online, as well as the role that we all play in helping to create a better Internet.

According to LIME’s CEO Garfield Sinclair, “As a responsible Internet service provider our commitment to a positive overall online experience does not stop at the point of reliably delivering the service. We feel duty-bound to go farther by informing users about safe usage of the Internet so that they may protect themselves and their loved ones.”

Recent incidents of disturbing images of sexual deviance and physical violence involving under-aged and young persons on the Internet have prompted the telecoms provider to launch a variety of activities to equip and empower adolescents about the do’s and don’ts of online behaviour.

On SID, LIME will deliver an interactive presentation about creating a positive online experience to students at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in St Andrew and the Herbert Morrison High School in the presence of Ministers of Government and educators.
