Princess Popstar expected to run in Thornbird Stakes
Horse of the Year and champion two-year-old of 2013, Princess Popstar is slated to run in next week’s final preparation race for the Classics, the Thornbird Stakes over seven furlongs.
If Princess Popstar is nominated to run in the Thornbird, it will be her first appearance for the season since being voted the Horse of the Year in late January. The Adore the Gold – Doc’s Paladin filly last raced on December 26, 2013 and although after a minor setback coming out of the gates, she easily won the much vaunted Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes over eight furlongs or 1,600 metres with Winston Griffiths in the saddle.
After completing her fourth victory from four starts last Boxing Day, Princess Popstar has been a regular on the racetrack in the mornings as her trainer the many times champion, Philip Feanny got her prepared for the Classic races starting with the 1,000 Guineas for three-year-old fillies in early April.
One regular early morning exercise clocker says that based on Princess Popstar gallops she is poised to have one preparation race before the Guineas. “Feanny is a master at preparing horses for the big races and given the talent of Princess Popstar she might not even need a prep race for the Classic, she is so good, but based on what I have seen at exercise, there is the likelihood that ‘The Princess’ will race before the Guineas,” the clocker said.
