Iguanas released
A group of iguanas at one of two known communal nest sites in the Hellshire Hills after being released there last Wednesday, March 12. A total of 29 of the endemic reptiles were released, bringing the total number to be repatriated since 1996 to 255.
A team from the Fort Worth, Audubon and San Diego zoos spent four days doing health exams on all 220 iguanas at the Hope Zoo headstart facility. Of those, 29 were considered large enough for release.The iguana repatriation programme is a partnership between the International Iguana Foundation, Jamaica’s Hope Zoo, Fort Worth Zoo in Texas, San Diego Zoo Global, and a string of others in the US.
