The teenAGE Expressions Tour visited Camperdown High School in a quest to find the nation’s most talented youth. Brenda Weathers, youth marketing officer at the Jamaica Observer hosted the show, with Di’Andra Brown, Peta-Gay Campbell and Monique McLaughlin as judges.

First on the cards was the duet called Hidden Harmony, who performed their original piece Heartbreak, which was well received by the audience. During a small break, Amanda Goldson did well for herself by answering a trivia question. Though short on prepared performances, Camperdown proved they weren’t at all short on talent as Chad Smith participated in the karaoke section introduced by the host. His rendition of Schoolaz Anthem by Vybz Kartel earned him favour with his schoolmates who enjoyed his performance.

Unite for Change, an initiative of the Ministry of National Security treated Camperdown with a performance from Shady Squad. The dance crew provided much entertainment with their well-coordinated moves and impressive routine to the theme ‘Song of the Movement’. The communications advisor to the Minister of National Security, Nekeisha Burchell was also there, motivating the students to “unite for change” by reducing violence in three ways namely respecting self and others, volunteering and using non-combative ways to resolve conflicts. Cards bearing the pledge of “Unite for Change” were distributed and Renee Steele also from the ministry of national security went through the pledge with the students, inviting them at intervals to repeat the catchy ‘Up, Up, Up, Way Up and Stay Up’ logo.

The interval gave way to the next performance by Shantelle White singing Tamia Give Me You while her audience cheered her on. Ajay Watson definitely made much use of the opportunity to showcase his lyrical talent as his deejay piece had his audience roaring with approval. The next trivia questions gave Davia Nembhard and Rachel Gayle chances to be winners of gifts courtesy of the sponsors. Ovaisha Bartley was up next with Realest, an original which gained maximum support from the audience.

The Cool Fruit Drink-off was next on the agenda and five teachers were summoned to compete much to the delight of the students. Horace Mason was the first to complete the given task. The students’ Drink-off was right after, with Naji McPherson the ultimate winner. An impromptu appearance of Unruly Skankers, a dance crew was well received by their audience.

With the emergence of the guest artiste, the excitement was taken to another level. Bugle captured his audience and had the students singing along to his every word. His hit songs were well known and had his audience going crazy while singing along. Brianna-Kay Grant filled the gap and ensured he didn’t perform his collaboration alone, as she joined him on stage to his Infidelity.

Taking things down to the end was Sydonnie Smith with her medley of current Jamaican songs. Hidden Harmony received third place in the end, Ajay Watson in the second spot with Ovaisha Bartley taking first place. Presentations were made to the respective winners of the trivia questions and challenges as well as the winners.

Correction: Winners from last week’s Expressions Tour from Edwin Allen High were Saseika Williams in first place, Osheen Howe in second place and Ultimate Dancers third. Williams will be moving on the island finals.
