JAMAICA’S IAAF World Indoors triple jump bronze medallist Kimberly Williams was hoping to open her outdoors season at the Jamaica International Invitational (JII) in May as she has done the last two years, but will not be able to do so.

The women’s triple jump was removed from the list of events that will be contested at the meet set for May 4 and the former Vere Technical and Florida State University star told the Sunday Observer she was not sure where she would open her outdoor season.

Williams, who won the IAAF World Indoor bronze in Sopot, Poland last month, her first global medal after making the finals at the London Olympics and the IAAF World Championships in Moscow last year, is in the island and was at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Champs on Wednesday’s second day of competition.

Of course she can’t stay away from the girls triple jump, an event where she still owns the meet record 13.52m set in 2007.

Her schedule for the rest of the season has not been fully set, but Williams told the Observer “the Commonwealth Games is definitely on my to do list”.

The Commonwealth Games will be held in Scotland in July and Williams will hope to win the title that was won four years ago by her compatriot Trecia Smith.

Williams has been the best triple jumper in the Commonwealth for at least the last three years and finished last season ranked at number four in the world after a season’s best 14.62m done in Moscow.
