Company wants back stolen cement
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A worker of Carib Cement Company is to be sentenced on Monday for stealing $2.3 million worth of cement from the company.
Maurice Samuels was scheduled to be sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Friday but the matter was set for Monday as the magistrate before whom he had pleaded guilty was not present.
At the same time, the court was told on Friday that Carib Cement Company is demanding the return of the stolen items. Arrangement is to be made for that to be done.
Last month, Samuels pleaded guilty to charges of forgery, conspiracy to defraud and larceny as a servant.
Samuels reportedly secured, using fraudulent documents, “72 jumbo bags” of cement on March 10 and 11 in the names H Miller, T McLeish and Wayne Fray.
Samuels was remanded into custody for sentencing.
