Boom times for Degree
IT has been 17 years since deejay Degree hit the charts with Boom Boom. The song is enjoying a revival with its use in a new radio commercial for popular energy drink Boom.
The song was recorded in 1997 on the Rotten Rich ‘riddim’ for producer Danny Browne’s Main Street Records. It is one of Degree’s biggest hits.
“When I heard it for the first time it was just cool. I understand the concept of the song and the drink kinda makes sense with the hook line,” said Degree.
Boom Boom was recorded during a purple patch for Degree and Main Street, a hip label which also had Junior Tucker, Buccaneer, Red Rat and Hawkeye on its books.
Degree is currently promoting his latest single, Nuh Fraid, on the riddim of the same name produced by Rohan ‘Jah Snow Cone’ Fuller.
While he records frequently, Degree says he is eyeing a return to music production. That took a back seat in the last three years as he pushed his Reh Geh T-shirt line.
Born Cardiff Butt in Manchester, Degree is working on an album and EP titled Bambalam. The latter is a five-track project set for a summer release.
