Burning the Fyah at Tuff Gong
BRITISH band Fyah Keepers recently recorded their debut album at the Tuff Gong studio in Kingston. It is set for a September release.
“We haven’t got a name for it yet, we have done 10 songs and we are just about to finish the mixing. This is always our dream to come to the roots (of reggae) and Bob Marley’s studio,” said Tomasz Rozek, the band’s guitarist and chief songwriter.
The quintet, who are from Southampton, worked with Jamaican musicians on the album, including saxophonist Dean Fraser and percussionist Denver Smith.
Fyah Keepers’ members also include lead vocalist Resoteric (given name Reece Whyte) and his Jamaican father, keyboardist William Whyte.
The band’s drummer, who goes by the name Burt, is originally from Kluczbork, a city dubbed Poland’s reggae capital because of its many reggae bands, and an annual reggae festival.
Bassist Versell Gordon was born in Southampton to a Jamaican mother and Vincentian father. It was his second visit to Jamaica.
“Hopefully, the public will like this album as much as we had fun making it. I can’t wait to come back and play in front of a Jamaican audience,” he said.
