Chatrie pilots Lady Like to victory in feature
AARON Chatrie was the toast at Caymanas Park by riding two winners, including the Dwight Chen-trained Lady Like in the GA ‘Sarge’ Bucknor Memorial Cup over 1,000 metres straight yesterday.
Offering odds at 7-1, Lady Like broke well and held in third position behind leaders Runjohnny Run (Shamaree Muir) and Piscean Rocket (Dane Nelson) with El Poderso (under Orlando Foster) in fourth for most of the way.
When asked to go by Chatrie in the final 200 metres, the five-year-old mare by Distorted-Knightley by Silver Charm responded well and got up in time to beat Piscean Rocket by one-and-a-quarter lengths. El Poderso was another two lengths in third with Lashing Force (Ruja Lahoe) completing the frame.
Owned by Hamark Farms, Lady Like covered the distance in a fast 0:58:2 seconds.
Chatrie’s other winner was Destiny’s Choice for trainer Gary Subratie in the second race over 1,000 metres round.
Meanwhile, the Gordon Lewis-owned and trained El Cliente romped the co-feature, the Herald Printers Limited Trophy over 1,100 metres.
Ridden by Ameth Robles, El Cliente sat off the pace and came running on in the straight to win comfortably by three-and-a-half lengths over Crucial Appeal (Michael Grant) and Shade Of Beauty (Dick Cardenas) in a decent time of 1:08:3 minutes.
Two-time defending champion jockey Dane Nelson, who arrived in the island from Trinidad and Tobago, where he rode two winners, rode one winner on the 10-race card. His winner was aboard the Richard Azan-trained Beckham in the eighth race over 1,820 metres, while Shane Ellis, who also arrived from Trinidad and Tobago, failed to ride a winner.
Racing continues today with the running of the Reynold ‘Ren’ Gonzalves Memorial Cup, an Overnight Allowance event for three-year-old and upwards over 2,000 metres.
