KINGSTON, Jamaica – After OBSERVER ONLINE featured a photograph of fourth-form Kingston College student Matthew Nesbeth assisting an elderly woman in downtown Kingston last Friday, the photo was shared by telecoms company LIME on their Facebook page.

And on Monday, LIME invited Matthew and Donique Benjamin, the student from the Convent of Mercy who took the photo, to their offices and presented them both with book vouchers valued at $15,000.

Matthew’s mother, Suzette Dixon, told OBSERVER ONLINE Tuesday that Matthew is humbled by the experience adding that she is not surprised by her son’s actions

“He is from a good home with strong parents and supporting family members,” said Dixon. “Therefore, I expected nothing less.”

He has to follow the footsteps of his older brother and sister… remain humble and count his blessings,” Dixon added.

His mother also told OBSERVER ONLINE that it is important to hold on to the good values and solid foundation of past generations and not sacrifice it for the ‘bling culture’ and that in all things one should pray and give thanks.

On their Facebook page, LIME described Matthew’s act as a “powerful gesture” that has inspired many and as such should not go unrecognised.
