Germany defeat US 1-0
Both teams progress from Group G
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Germany defeated the US 1-0 in their Group G game Thursday but both teams will advance to the knockout stage of the World Cup
After paying to a stalemate in the first half Germany opened the score in the 54th minute through a Thomas Muller strike.
Muller added to his tally of goals in the tournament knocking into the bottom corner when US goalkeeper Tim Howard parried an initial shot.
The goal was good enough to make the difference between the two teams.
Meanwhile in the other Group G game Portugal defeated Ghana 2-1 ensuring that the US progressed
Cristiano Renaldo got his first goal in the tournament as top seeded Portugal and Ghana exit the competition.
