SANDALS Resorts in the Montego Bay region, in partnership with the Montego Bay Police Youth Club, will today host a career day expo at the Montego Bay Boys and Girls Club.

According to Sandals, the collaborative effort is intended to expose young people within St James to the various job offerings in the hospitality industry as well as provide insight on the current job market.

The expo, dubbed ‘Hospitality from all Angles’, will feature stalwarts within the hospitality industry as well as several training and job placement entities. Key partners include the Jamaica Tourist Board, Tourism Product Development Company, the Social Development Commission, Heart Trust NTA, the 4-H Clubs of Saint James, National Youth Service, Chukka Caribbean and Island Routes Caribbean Adventures, as well as divisions within Sandals Resorts, including the signature Red Lane® Spa and the Sandals Corporate University.

According to the latest report from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, as of January 2014, more than 64,000 young people have fallen among Jamaica’s unemployed. In addition, a lack of adequate preparation and requisite skill sets were cited as factors that hinder young persons from becoming gainfully employed.

According to a Sandals release, companies and presenters participating in the expo have a wealth of expertise and knowledge about their respective areas which will be of great benefit to persons attending.

“Many young people aspire to work within the hospitality industry,” said Sandals regional public relations manager, Khadine Daley, “but they lack exposure to the variety of jobs that are available and the necessary training required to get these jobs. The career day expo will give these individuals an opportunity to interact with industry professionals who can share their experiences and provide first-hand knowledge of the industry,” she said.

“With a network of over 300 young people within the parish of Saint James, the Divisional Council of Police Youth Clubs provide an important avenue for engagement within the second city,” added Daley.

She said that the Sandals team was looking forward to a continued partnership with the Montego Bay Police Youth Club as both entities aim to create opportunities and positive outcomes for young people in and around St James.

The expo, which starts at 10:00 am, is free of cost and open to the public.
