Digicel Foundation helping to improve literacy in primary schools
DIGICEL Foundation is helping to improve literacy in primary schools through its Project 1000 which provides students with tablets and computers.
Project 1000 is a Digicel Foundation initiative to target literacy levels at 1,000 early childhood institutions and primary schools across the island by providing Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs).
The project is in keeping with the Foundation’s aim of assisting the Ministry of Education to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of achieving 100 per cent literacy by 2015. Over the course of three years, approximately US$375,000 will be invested to provide a wide variety of ICTs to schools across Jamaica.
Two hundred and fifty schools have already been approved to receive 736 computers. Ten more schools will benefit from tablets next week as the Foundation expands Project 1000.
