The Jamaica Basketball Association (JABA) on Monday appointed an interim steering committee (ISC) to oversee the affairs of the association until a new president is elected.

The committee will be led by Hazel Cameron.

The ISC was selected by delegates of JABA at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) back in April. However, due to personal reasons the then selected chairperson tendered her resignation, which has led to the selection of Cameron as the new chair.

Calvin Martin will be the deputy chairman of the committee, which also comprises members of JABA affiliates such as the five conferences; the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA); Intercol; Business House Basketball Association; members of the outgoing executives; as well as the three presidential candidates.

Some of the primary duties of the committee include overseeing the day-to-day administrative functions of the association, as well as to prepare outstanding audited reports for the last three years.

They are also required to establish a Constitutional Reform Committee, and oversee the election of officers of the association.

The sub-committees which were also established recently will see Cameron being the chairwoman of the national female team, to go along with the audit and finance portfolio.

Gordon Porter was slated to be the chairman of the National Basketball League (NBL), while Major Clifton Lumsden, who pulled out of the presidential election, will head the constitution committee.

The elections will see Mark Broomfield going up against Douglas Reid, who was the assistant general secretary of the previous administration, and Paulton Gordon, who was also a member of the previous administration led by Ajani Williams, where he filled the capacity of first vice-president.
