Jamaican awarded scholarship to Spain
THE Spanish-Jamaican Foundation and Spanish Company INDRA Sistemas have awarded a scholarship to Marva Campbell, officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, to pursue the prestigious master in diplomacy and international relations for the academic year 2014/2015 at the Diplomatic School of Madrid (Spain).
The offer was facilitated through the offices of the Embassy of Spain and the personal involvement of Celsa Nuño, ambassador of Spain.
The scholarship is a result of a public-private initiative to strengthen the human capacity of the Jamaican foreign service. The candidate will also receive additional support from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation which will fund her return airfare.
The Diplomatic School of Spain is a division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation of Spain. The master in diplomacy and international relations is imparted in Spanish by senior diplomats and distinguished members of academia. It is also attended by Spanish diplomats as part of their training, thus opening the door to valuable networking opportunities.
At the successful completion of her studies in Madrid, Campbell will have gained highly specialised knowledge and perfected her language skills, thus allowing her to further contribute to the advancement of her country in international affairs.
Campbell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Endicott College, Beverly, Massachusetts. She has served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade since 2002 in various positions, including over four years as administrative attaché in Mexico City.
