Owner Don Wehby must have been thinking that both lady luck and racing luck had deserted him in recent times as despite having several racing horses, the winners’ enclosure appeared to be a long lost fantasy. Such is racing however, with its many pitfalls and glorious moments. The wait for Wehby came to an end on Saturday when after 17 attempts, his All That Matters (Shane Ellis) after a ding dong battle got up in the nick of time to beat Nastashadontplay (Andre Martin) by a head. The difference this time appears to be the wearing of the cheek pieces, another example of what a change of equipment can do. May the winners continue to flow, Sir Don.

A first for Miss Dorothy and trainer Pottinger

Miss Dorothy, after many tries finally found the winning post in front, but had to produce a strong late run to beat Swift Gold (Orayne Sewell). The win by Miss Dorothy must have brought relief to trainer Errol Pottinger. With just 31 starts since the start of the year, Pottinger was able to saddle his first winner. Miss Dorothy was ridden by Romario Saunders and went off at 7-2 in a field of 12, going over 1,500 metres. The door has been opened, continue to push hard, Mr Pottinger.

Double for Ellis and Nunes

The combination of jockey Shane Ellis and trainer Anthony Nunes gave a gentle reminder that they are still a very formidable combination by scoring a working double. All That Matters (He’stherealthing – Pretty Hilly), who came from far behind to win on a three-year-old maiden tag going over 1,600 metres and the three-year-old chestnut filly Pro Seco (Western Classic – Quiet Giant), was an easy winner among maiden special weight over 1,000 metres straight. The combo continues to shine.

Double for Muir

Two-time champion apprentice rider Shamaree Muir continues to enjoy good form after losing his ‘bug’ by posting a spanking double, Perfect Flyer and Kay Sue at Caymanas Park on Saturday. Muir produced the Patrick Lynch-trained and Hamark Farms-owned Perfect Flyer for a late run to beat Annie Oakley (Oneil Mullings) by half a length going over 1,100 metres.

He then returned in the Henry George Harrison Sr. Memorial Cup on the Gresford Smith trained Kay Sue to beat Oh My Grand Pa (Richard Mitchell) and Justice Rhoodal (Kuri Powell) going over 1,300 metres. With those two winners, Muir moved his tally this season to 19 wins from 189 rides.
