Police conduct operation in Spanish Town market district
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The St Catherine North Police supported by the members of Mobile Reserve and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) on Friday, August 29, carried out an operation in the Spanish Town market district and its environs, in a continuation of Operation Resilience III, which was launched in June 2014
According to head of the St Catherine North Division, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Anthony Castelle the counter-gang strategy is to dominate the public spaces and to prevent and detect illegal activities being carried out by gangsters in the business district.
“We have been reassuring citizens by dominating the bus park and market areas in the district to restore law and order and public safety. We are aware of illegal activities including robberies and extortion and we will continue to pursue gangsters who disregard the law and thrive on instilling fear in law abiding citizens,” SSP Castelle said.
Yesterday’s operations also involved a partnership with members of the St Catherine Parish Council, which resulted in the removal of several illegally operated vending stalls in the vicinity of the bus park, the police said.
