JUTC now accepting cash payments until Sunday
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says it will accept cash payment for bus fares from all passengers including concession passengers until Sunday, September 7.
Managing Director Colin Campbell said that the company’s decision to extend amnesty to people to get their Smarter Cards was taken as result of the large crowds turning up at the JUTC offices to get their cards.
“After this extension, passengers will only be able to access their concession fares by using their Smarter Card because the only tickets that bus drivers will be able to issue are the $120 adult fare tickets,” Campbell said.
A JUTC release late Monday said that for this week (September 1 to 6, 2014) the company will be focusing on distributing Smarter Cards to concession passengers and is appealing to adult passengers not to attempt to acquire cards during this period.
JUTC said that over the past three days it has issued in excess of 10,000 Smarter Cards.
