Wolmer’s Boys’ to open new auditorium
COME April 2015, Wolmer’s Boys’ School will open a new state-of-the-art, energy-efficient auditorium.
Dr Walton Small, principal of the 285-year-old institution, said since 1991 the school has been without an auditorium.
The $170-million building will utilise the natural elements to foster conservation.
“All the rain water that is wasted will be collected. We’re going to be building tanks so we can store that water by means of water harvesting. We will also be using solar energy to power parts of the building and we’re now looking at the possibility of including wind energy, depending on which is more economical,” Dr Small said.
He said the auditorium, which will be able to function as a multi-purpose building, will be able to comfortably seat 1,480 students.
“We expect to attract a lot of the businesses to come down and have their plays here or their performances as it [auditorium] will provide modern facilities for those activities,” he said.
The building’s stage will be built to accommodate plays and theatrical performances with high-tech lighting and rolling curtains.
