Sang Hue hailed as a giant of cricket
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Test umpire Douglas Sang Hue was hailed as a giant in the world of cricket at the thanksgiving service for his life held at the St Paul’s Methodist Church, Port Royal on Saturday.
He umpired 31 Test matches in the West Indies between 1962 and 1981, his first in the 5th Test against India at Sabina Park, Kingston in March 1962.
Sang Hue was described at the service as “one who set the stage for other regional umpires” and as having an abundance of knowledge on the rules of the game even influencing changes in a number of cricket laws.
Sang Hue, born in Jamaica on October 28, 1931 died on August 22, 2014.
