Harbour View’s winning roll continues

Barbican FC………………1 Mario McDonald (76th) Harbour View…………..2 John-Ross Edwards pk(38th), Jermie Lynch (71st)

Harbour View FC recorded their second consecutive victory and third of the 2014-15 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season after scoring a 2-1 win over Barbican FC at UWI Bowl, Mona, yesterday.

John-Ross Edwards gave the ‘Stars of the East’ the lead in the 38th minute from the penalty spot before Jermie Lynch added another in the 71st minute. Mario McDonald got the lone goal for Barbican FC.

The win pushed Harbour View up to 11 points and fourth in the standings, while Barbican have now slipped into the relegation zone on five points.

Winning coach Andrew Hines said he is happy with the three points, but not pleased with the overall performance of his team

“I challenged the fellows to get this three points so I was not expecting to leave here without the three points. The first half we had the better of play, but (we) allowed them to come back in the game; I thought we had dominated until we relaxed,” he explained.

His counterpart Junior Francis felt a lapse in defence cost his team the game.

“I think some simple goals are scoring on us, we are just unfortunate… twice now hand ball got the better of the team. But I think the team is playing well, I think for the entire game we played better than Harbour View, but when you get your chances and don’t score, that’s a part of it,” he lamented.

The encounter started a bit scrappy, but Barbican FC was the first to settle in attack and fired a few shots wide of the target. However, Harbour View gradually gained the ascendancy and launched a few attacks of their own which resulted in them being awarded a penalty after Shawn Lawes handled the ball inside the 18-yard area. Edwards held is composure and easily converted from 12-yards.

The second half began just as the first before Lynch capitalised on a defensive error, after which McDonald pulled one back for the hosts by helping the ball over the head of the advancing Levor Williams in goal for Harbour View.
