CB moves into biodegradable packaging for frozen products line
CARIBBEAN Broilers (CB) is tapping into biodegradable packaging for its frozen line of products as the group delves further into its ‘go green’ initiative.
The initiative, which focuses primarily on global preservation of the environment through sustainable and economically friendly living practices, has pushed many individuals and businesses to create more practical solutions for maintaining an eco-friendly environment.
“As we unveil our new look across all chilled and frozen products, we continue to actively research various options that will help to ensure that all of CB’s packaging will go green in the near future,” said CB’s Brand Manager Alicia Bogues.
The company, which now has two biodegradable packages, has been producing biodegradable containers for its Chippenham Eggs brand since 2011. Additionally, CB’s frozen mixed parts and Grade A chicken are now packaged in biodegradable bags.
Globally, biodegradable packaging has been a practical solution for the environment because it consists of materials that naturally break down into organic components, reducing the pollution of landfills, waterways and harm to wildlife.
“As the CB Group moves to lead the ‘green living’ trend, which focuses on making sure more and more of what we toss out from our homes and places of business is biodegradable, we are closer to the goal of making Jamaica an eco-friendly place with less waste,” Bogues said.
Over the years, the company has been looking for ways to improve its products. In September, the group engaged in the certification of 19 of its poultry farmers under the ISO 9001:2008, HACCP (Hazard Analysis
and Critical Control Points)
and GMP (Good
Manufacturing Practice) through Switzerland-based certification company, Société Générale de Surveillance.
The certification, which started in mid-2013, allows CB to export chickens produced by the farmers, and increases the likelihood for the consumption of safer meats.
“Our customers can rest assured that they will still be getting the same great products produced in the only ISO:9001, HACCP and GMP-certified facility in Jamaica, [and] in a sleek, new design with benefits of not only safe food, but now a clean environment,” Bogues said.
