Dynamites explode in JCA Twenty20
University Dynamites bounced back from last week’s nail-biting defeat to secure their first win in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA)/Jamaica Premier League Twenty20 cricket competition when they defeated Kingston Hurricanes by 18 runs at Kensington Cricket Club, yesterday.
The Dynamites posted a respectable total of 150 for seven from their 20 overs, before restricting Kingston Hurricanes to 132 for nine, thanks to a four-wicket haul by medium-pacer Derval Green.
Scores: University Dynamites 150-7 (20 overs); Kingston Hurricanes 132-9 (20 overs).
The Hurricanes won the toss and asked the Dynamites to take first strike. Their decision paid dividends in the second over of the innings when Oshane Walters (17) was run out by Aaron Johnson, and they were pushed on the backfoot at 48 for two, when Jason Dawes removed Gavin Wallace for 11. However, Ravmon Powell made a cracking 38 from 26 balls, which included three fours and a lone six, before David Bernard Jr (20) chipped in at the end to ensure that their team had something to defend. Fabian Allen (three for 18) and Dawes two for 34 had the best bowling figures.
The Hurricanes then fell short in their reply with Damion Jacobs (30) and Thavi Spencer (26 not out) making most runs. Green ended with four for 21, supported by Christopher Powell who grabbed three for 31.
Spanish Town Titans secured their first win of the league when they trashed defending champions Mobay Sixers by nine wickets in the curtain-raiser at Ultimate Cricket Ground in St Elizabeth.
Scores: Mobay Sixers 126-6 (20 overs); Spanish Town Titans 132-1 (18 overs).
Meanwhile, Ocho Rios Chargers recorded a 10-run win over Mandeville Thunders, who were suffering their second consecutive defeat.
Scores: Ocho Rios Chargers 166-6 (20 overs); Mandeville Thunders 157-7 (20 overs).
