Tracking changes of equipment
SATURDAY JANUARY 10
There were two instances on Saturday’s nine-race programme where changes in equipment seemed to have made the difference between winning and losing. With the removal of the tongue tie, the Wayne DaCosta conditioned Polly B was a winner. Ridden by Robert Halledeen, Polly B drew away from his five rivals to win handily by five lengths in a time of 0:57:4 seconds going over 1,000 metres straight. In the case of the sixth race winner, Chief Prospect, the addition of the tongue tie made the difference. With the tongue tie, Chief Prospect, trained by Everal Francis and ridden by Dane Nelson, easily got home by three-and-a-half lengths in front of Maria’s Glory in 1:43:3 minutes over a mile. The Complete Racing Guide continues to urge our readers to track these changes of equipment.
SEVEN HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY

I’m Alright was claimed from Collin Ferguson by Johnny Wilmot for himself for $250,000 and the Gary Griffiths-trained Laptop was taken by Leroy Tomlinson acting as both trainer and owner also for $250,000 from the fourth race. In the eighth race, Gordon Lewis lost El Cliente for $550,000 to Ryan Darby for owner Raphael Gordon, Mr Luval was claimed by Welsh Soutar for Anastasia Stables from Wayne DaCosta for $550,000 and Lance Richards claimed Cold Ground for himself from Albert Chong also for $500,000. DACOSTA CONTINUES GOOD FORM
Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta continued his good form since the start of the 2015 season. Having landed a triple on January 3, the champion returned on Saturday with two winners, Polly B and Also Correct. DaCosta’s main rival Anthony Nunes who started with a triple of his own on New Year’s Day had one January 3 and one (The Real Draft) on Saturday. Interesting days are ahead.
ALSO CORRECT COMES GOOD
The four-year-old filly, Also Correct showed up when it mattered
most, winning the feature event – the City Of Kingston Centenary Cup
going over 1,600 metres at Caymanas Park on Saturday. With Shane Ellis
riding for trainer Wayne DaCosta and owners Elizabeth DaCosta and
Raymond Rousseau, Also Correct (Region Of Merit – Royal Pizzaz) came
with a strong run against the rails turning for home to beat Jack De
Charmer (Jevvanne Erwin) and stablemate Mr Luval (Robert Halledeen) by
four-and-a-half lengths. The winning time was 1:41:0 minutes.
