CAPTAIN Horace Burrell, president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), has announced that a National Senior Women’s Squad began an eight-day training camp in Florida on Sunday.

This camp will move to a higher level the Senior Reggae Girlz’ preparation for the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers, which will begin at the CFU level on August 19 and end October 5. Three teams from the CFU will advance to the CONCACAF level.

Captain Burrell has expressed sincere appreciation to Global Ambassador for Jamaica’s women’s football programme, Cedella Marley of the Bob Marley Foundation, whose ongoing fund-raising activities and support has made the camp possible.

The squad includes players who were involved in the recent World Cup qualifiers, as well as some new invitees. It also includes players at the Under-20 level, including former National Under-17 captain Kadija Shaw.

The delegation from Jamaica departed the island on Sunday and includes interim head coach Xavier Gilbert, who was joined by Hue Menzies and other technical advisors for the programme.

The camp will include training sessions and practice games as well as a continuation of an assessment of the fitness level of players.

The delegation will stay in Lake Mary, Florida, and train at the Central Winds practice fields in Winter Park.
