Rushane Williams missed his chance to represent his school at the ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Championships. This made him eager to take up the challenge at the LIME’s “I Run This Town” event where he delivered a time of 2.68 seconds. His quick feet allowed him to walk away with $25,000 and to secure for his school, Morant Bay High, a similar amount.

“It’s a good feeling,” said the elated student athlete after receiving a cheque for $25,000. “I will use it to do a lot of things. I consider using it to help to buy my Penn Relays ticket (if the school is going) or I will put it in the bank.”

Williams, who runs the sprints, should have participated in Boys’ and Girls’ Champs but due to registration issues he missed his chance. “I started in fourth form but I missed last season because of CXCs and a back injury,” Williams said. “I have another season and I hope to do well.”

Kimara Francis of Seaforth High School won the female category with 3.02 seconds, pocketing $25,000 and handing over a similar amount to her school.

The initiative by LIME is to assist schools and to promote the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Field Championships which started on Tuesday and ends today at the National Stadium.
