BOY Wonder, the 7-5 morning line favourite, drew the outside post in a field of eight for the Graded Stakes three-year-old and upward Chairman’s Trophy call at Caymanas Park today.

The 1,500 metres showcase event will be run as the penultimate race on the extended 11-race programme scheduled to go to post at approximately 4:45 pm, with first post at 12:10 pm.

Among the eight runners declared, the Harry Parsard-trained Boy Wonder possesses the most impressive win record of eight wins from nine starts and today he goes in search of his seventh consecutive.

However, despite his recent good form and obvious class, the Curragh Goat Agency four-year-old chestnut colt will not find the Graded Stakes call a cake walk as he not only have three of his other quality stablemates in Potcheen, Pete’swildone and Uppa Tune to keep him company, but the very versatile and also talented top Grade One performer Perfect Neighbour.

With no Typewriter around, his chances are as good as any other in the line-up, even at the head of the handicaps.

His favourite lightweight jockey Shamaree Muir will continue his love affair in the saddle with the far-striding five-year-old dark bay son of Natural Selection out of Ghost Ranson bred at (YS, 1955) Ltd).

Prepared by the 14-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta for owners Alfred A Lee & Jeffrey Mordecai, Perfect Neighbour has already won over the distance in a smart time of 1:31.3 minutes, beating Pete’swildone when allowing him 6.0kg.

Like Boy Wonder, also with his favourite jockey Omar Walker astride, Perfect Neighbour has also shown from preparation reports that he too is sufficiently well conditioned to be right there at the death when this is being decided.

With so many fast horses, including his own stablemates Hover Craft and All Correct present, Perfect Neighbour should have more than a cursory look-in.

Looking back on his last run, Potcheen, to be ridden by Trevor Simpson, must not be taken lightly despite his barrier one draw.

He was seen idling on last going 1,300 metres but made late headway when he came travelling like the shot out of a gun to go down by 2 1/2 lengths under claiming apprentice O’Brien White after Boy Wonder had sewn up the race.
