Carniva l Dingolay!

Pro make-up artist and MACO Caribbean Living Magazine’s “Best Bridal Makeup” awardee Loni Jones shows you how to get ready for the last hurrah of Bacchanal. With vibrant hues of neon pink and canary yellow, Jones shows you how to get in the mix for the Carnival climax road march.

HOW TO

Step 1: Cleanse face with make-up remover or make-up wipes.

Step 2: Shape and fill brows.

TIP: For carnival, a waterproof cream-based brow-filler is best.

Step 3: Starting with the eyes, prime them with eyeshadow primer. We used the NYX jumbo pencil in white.

TIP: A white cream primer is best to show pure colour.

Step 4: Choose the eyeshadow colours you’ll be using, then apply to your eyes.

TIP: If using loose eyeshadows, apply eye make-up first to skip under-eye fallout clean-up.

Step 5: Apply eyeliner on the eyelid (preferably a liquid eyeliner) then apply lashes.

TIP: Always apply top liner first! This hides an uneven lash application and makes lashes appear full.

Step 6: Apply glitter (cosmetic grade) eyeshadow at the temple above the brows using glitter glue. Place the glitter glue first, give it a couple of seconds to get tacky, then apply glitter with finger.

TIP: Using a finger to apply glitter allows better control of placement.

Step 7: Time for some bling! In desired shape or form, place rhinestone glue first, give it a few seconds to get tacky, then apply rhinestones.

TIP: A wax pencil or flat-head tweezer works best for rhinestone application, especially if rhinestones are small.

Step 8: Apply concealer under eyes if needed, then lightly apply foundation to the face, working around eye work and set with a powder.

TIP: Skip applying product and foundation where glitter and gems etc will be applied. For glitter and gems to adhere properly, it’s best to have the skin clean, dry and product-free.

Step 9: Apply eyeliner in preferred colour to the bottom water line and under lash line, smudging with a smudge brush. Set with matching colour eye shadow.

TIP: A soft khol liner is excellent for a spot on line.

Step 10: Apply mascara and blush, then your favourite lip colour.

TIP: A waterproof mascara is the way to go.

For road march day, it’s best to use waterproof products and less foundation. Finish entire look with a final spray of make-up sealer. Blue Selr Makeup Sealer is best and will keep make-up intact through your chippin’ in the sunshine and rain.
