LUCEA, Hanover – With 10 murders committed in Hanover since the start of the year, Community Safety and Security Territorial Officer for the parish Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Sharon Beeput, says the police have put measures in place to reduce major crimes in the parish.

“We are sticking to our strategic path which is the reduction of crime, especially murders,” DSP Beeput said during her address at the recent regular monthly meeting of the Hanover Parish Council.

According to DSP Beeput, among the measures that have been implemented are the high visibility of police on the roads, which includes numerous spot checks, as well as presentations at a number of schools in the parish.

“In the town areas, we have being having a lot of spot checks and targeted operations being carried out in some of our hot spot areas. We have been visiting our schools and sometimes we do some presentations, lectures and we also speak with members of communities,” she explained.

Meanwhile, DSP Beeput encouraged councillors in attendance at the meeting to report activities in their respective divisions to “someone they are comfortable with”, or to call 1800-CORRUPT (1800-2677878).

Between January and March last year, there were 11 homicides committed in Hanover. However, the year ended with 39 murders committed.
