Wadadah advance to Western Confed Super League finals
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Wadadah FC have qualified for the finals of the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Super League after upsetting Sandals Whitehouse 2-0 in their return leg semi-final at Jarrett Park on Tuesday for a 3-1 aggregate win.
Obrien Warren in the first minute and Oshane Forbes, who replaced him at half-time, scored in time added for Wadadah FC, who will now meet the winner of the other semi-finals between former champions Granville FC and Savannah SC on May 12 and 16.
Wadadah had come from behind in the first-leg semi-final at Frome to earn a 1-1 draw.
On Tuesday Sandals Whitehouse who had topped the points table after the regular season with 51 points, threw everything in attack but found the Wadadah FC defence rock solid.
Wadadah wasted little time in taking the lead, scoring after just 48 seconds after kick-off, but had to soak up a lot of pressure from the Sandals Whitehouse team that scored 52 goals in the season.
The St James team had a good shout for penalty mid-way the first half but referee Daneon Parchment, who was well placed to view the incident, waved play on.
Minutes afterwards Warren had a good scoring chance, but with just goalkeeper Joel Johnson between him and the goal, booted the ball wide.
Sandals Whitehouse dominated the game in the second half and pinned Wadadah FC back in their own defensive area for long periods but had nothing to show for it.
Injuries to both goalkeepers resulted in eight minutes being added on at the end of the second half and it was in the last minute of time added that Forbes killed off the game when they caught Sandals Whitehouse with a three-on-one counter-attack.
