Savannah to face Wadadah in Super League final
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Savannah SC are in to the final of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/ Western Confederation Super League after beating Granville FC 2-0 in their return-leg semi-final game at Jarrett Park on Wednesday for a 2-0 aggravate over both legs.
Ron Daley scored a 67th-minute penalty kick and Neville Morgan scored in the 89th minute for the Westmoreland club, who will meet Wadadah FC in the final set for May 12 and 16.
It was the first win for Savannah SC over Granville FC this season and came after the teams had played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Frome nearly two weeks ago.
Both teams created good scoring chances, but had to be satisfied with a 0-0 half-time score.
Just when it appeared extra time would be needed to settle the semi-final match-up, Savannah SC were gifted the lead when Lavado Whyte tripped Owen Cunningham just inside the Granville FC area after the Savannah SC players had just entered the field minutes earlier.
Daley made no mistake from the spot, sending goalkeeper Zavhia Hutchinson the wrong way with his spot kick.
Savannah SC doubled their advantage with a minute to go when Morgan was allowed space on the left side, and what appeared to be a cross eluded Hutchinson and flew into the far corner of the goal.
