Badminton names team to PanAm Games
THE Jamaica Badminton Association has named the team to the PanAm Games to be held in Toronto, Canada in July 2015.
The players are Gareth Henry, Dayvon Reid, Katherine Wynter and Ruth Williams, and they are to be accompanied by managerWinston Ricketts and coach Howard Ranger.
Henry is currently training in Malaysia at the New Vision Badminton Academy in preparation for both the Games and his bid to qualify for the 2016 Olympics. Reid, a past national junior player, based in Canada, and recently inducted into the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association’s (OCAA) Hall of Fame, is training at the KC Badminton Club in Toronto.
Williams and Wynter (recently returned from the Trinidad and Tobago International) are training in Jamaica, under the watchful eyes of coaches Neil and Alya Lewis and technical director Ranger.
The Pan Am Games are the world’s third largest multi-sport games and are held every four years, along with the Parapan Games in the year preceding the Olympics and Paralympic Summer Games. Competition will take place in 36 PanAm sports and 15 Parapan Am sports in the Toronto PanAm Games this year. The Badminton Competition begins July 11 and ends July 16.
