Hospital workers in St Ann protest over wages
ST ANN, Jamaica – Workers at the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital on Monday, staged a demonstration at the health facility after they did not receive increment payment, which has been due since April for temporary workers and May for permanent workers.
The placard-bearing workers stayed off the job most of Monday morning and stood at the entrance of the property protesting.
OBSERVER ONLINE learnt that workers which included psychiatric aids, practical nurses, attendants and porters went as far as to padlock the entrance to the facility.
The padlocks were removed with the help of the Fire Brigade.
Monday’s protest was affected by periodic downpour of rain in the town.
Union leaders met with human resource staff to discuss the payment issue affecting the workers on Monday afternoon.
